Not necessary - For the major routes, the signposting is so good and the number of free tourist maps available so plentiful, that you don t need a map like this.If you want to get off the beaten track, as we did, this map is next to useless as each village is just a blob and you have no idea how to get to the next place. Luckily, the locals will bend over backwards to help you and I frequently went against male stereotyping by stopping to ask for directions. Even though I don t speak Spanish the locals were so helpful I got un-lost.There are also glaring errors such as where the m-way starts on leaving Merida for Cancun. One other good point is that the map s made of plastic - essential in such humid and rainy places. But again, you won t need it.

Must have if you are visiting the ruin sites! - These are great maps to have if you are planning any extensive tour of the ruin sites. Lists all the large and small sites. The map is easy to read and navigate with and I found it to be very up to date. Must have for the independent travler. Also check out A Tourist in the Yucatan fun thriller set at these same ruin sites.
